Types of Waterless Urinal Bowl

Purpose-Built Waterless Urinals: There are several brands of purpose-built waterless urinal bowl available. The most popular in the UK is the Aridian from Armitage Shanks/Ideal Standard. Others include the Uridan from Denmark, which was extensively deployed at the 2012 Olympics.
The Aridian bowl was designed for use with the Falcon cartridge from the USA, and most still use that cartridge. However, the high number of Aridian bowls installed in the UK has resulted in a number of alternative cartridge options being developed, including the GW6 from Gentworks.  This means that, unlike for other purpose-built urinal bowls, sites have a choice of waterless system, resulting in innovation and price competition between suppliers in both products and services related to the Aridian.
Standard Urinals Bundled with a Waterless Retrofit SystemDue to the much higher manufacturing volumes, standard urinals tend to be significantly less costly than purpose-built waterless urinals. Almost any urinal with a 1.5” (38mm) drain can be bundled with a waterless retrofit system. A plastic or chrome stopper is often provided to cover the hole at the top of the bowl from where a flush have been dispensed.
Modified Urinals Bundled with a Waterless Retrofit System: During 2012, major sanitaryware manufacturers began to release versions of their standard urinal bowls without the hole at the top for the spreader. Due to the small production runs, these 'modified' urinal designs are typically sold at a significant price premium.  When bundled with a retrofit waterless system, this type of urinal can be presented as a “purpose-built” waterless urinal precisely because the lack of spreader hole means it cannot be flushed.
