Based on Gentworks survey data from hundreds of sites, a typical urinal uses around 120 cubic metres (m³) of water each year. Actual consumption can vary significantly, from approximately 29m³ to 235m³ per year, depending largely on the level of flush control already in place.

Almost all standard urinals, whether newly installed or older models, can be converted to waterless operation. The conversion process is straightforward, although careful installation is important to ensure reliable performance. Gentworks supplies conversion kits that can be fitted by your own maintenance team or by a plumber. Once converted, the urinal no longer requires flushing water, reducing both water consumption and the volume of wastewater sent for treatment.
