Waterless Urinals by Gentworks :: Installation and Servicing
 |
Installation and Servicing Options |
 |
Many sites choose to use Gentworks products to convert urinals to waterless using their own maintenance team or reputable local plumbing firm. It is not particularly difficult in most cases. However, if you have experienced many odour and blockage problems in the past, then you should consider having Gentworks engineers carry out the conversion, including pipework repairs. Sites that have had regular problems with urinals generally have poorly configured pipework that need such repairs. Simply fitting waterless urinal cartridges will not rectify physical defects such as split or heavily scaled pipes, broken valves and negative falls ("up hill" waste pipes).
Experienced Gentworks engineers based near Sheffield, Rugby, Oxford and Portsmouth are available to carry out the conversion of urinals to
waterless or
low-flushing. We can also perform quarterly maintenance, if required. Currently, these services are available for
47 counties across England and Wales, from Kent to West Glamorgan, and Devon to North Yorkshire.
An accurate estimate of our charges for these services for your particular site can be easily calculated using the
"Gentworks waterless urinals costs and savings calculator" . It is strongly recommended that low-flushing conversion and maintenance is carried out by either Gentworks engineers or those with similar experience. Conversion to waterless should also be carried out to a professional standard but, if correctly installed and the simple maintenance procedures are followed, waterless urinals are usually trouble free.
Conversion of Urinals to Waterless
All Gentworks engineers have more than 5 years experience in converting existing urinals to waterless. We can also install
new waterless urinal bowls, if required. Risk assessments, method statements and insurance details are provided upon request. Gentworks vans carry all the standard parts for repairing and replacing waste pipes as well as electical rodding through equipment to carry out full descaling. For full details of the works performed during conversion, please

-
fitting of new waste trap and waste outlet receptacle to receive the waterless urinal maintenance device (UMD) cartridge
-
draining ang capping of cistern and water supply pipes in accordance with best practice for minimising legionella risk (A procedure known as
"dead legging" .)
-
electromechanical clearance (descaling) of urinal waste pipes to the stack and, where necessary, repair or replacement of damaged pipework
-
changing waste pipe configuration for reliability and ease of maintenance by adding rodding eyes etc.
-
training of cleaners and maintenance staff in caring for waterless urinals, if required and possible
Quarterly Servicing of Urinals after Conversion to Waterless
Providing that waterless urinals are cleaned with a compatible cleaner and dosed as recommended with Gentworks Bactericidal Cleaner, waterless urinals are usually trouble free. However, many larger sites choose to have Gentworks attend quarterly to carry out a professional service of the urinals to ensure optimal reliability. Our engineers all have more than 5 years experience and carry rodding gear in their vans together with all the standard components required for work on waste pipes. The quarterly service includes:
-
dosing with additional environment-friendly chemicals
-
electromechanical clearance of urinal waste pipes, where necessary
-
replacement of waterless cartridges and removal of used cartridge from site
-
option to use a waterless cartridge that is fully and hygienically recycled in our workshop, reducing the impact on landfill
Converting to low-flushing is only a little more complicated, in theory, than converting to waterless. However, achieving good reliability can require more time and expertise. We have come across many low-flushing conversions that have been poorly implemented with unpleasant results. Gentworks offers to carry out low-flushing conversions, including descaling, repairs, replacement and reconfiguration of pipework as necessary. Similarly, based on experience, the quarterly maintenance required for low-flushing urinals frequently requires the use of electrical drain maintenance equipment by experienced personnel. For this reason, so quarterly servicing by Gentworks engineers is recommended.
